Programming Development Design Business

My name is Lindsay Grace - a teacher, programmer and designer.

I am a full-time professor in Information Technology disciplines. I teach at the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago, Illinois. My students are working toward Bachelor of Arts degrees in a variety of disciplines including: Digital Media Production, Web Design, Game Design, and Information Technology. I have also taught at ITT Technical schools and completed course design for American Intercontinental University online.

When time permits I complete independent contracts for small to mid-sized businesses. I provide consultation on aspects of system and usability design. My programming focus is on extensible web and business systems.

I am currently enrolled in the Computer Science PhD at the University of Illinois.

I hold the Masters in Computer Information Systems and the Bachelor of Arts in English from Northwestern University. I have also completed coursework toward the Chartered Financial Analyst certification.

About Me

I most enjoy working on new challenges. I’m very comfortable balancing multiple projects and seek the challenge of developing new solutions. I focus my efforts on an intelligent, elegant solution.

I have been programming computers for more than 10 years (off and on). Consequently, I have a wealth of personal expertise in software development.

I first started developing websites in 1996. Before that, I had been programming in Basic and using fledgling business applications like Lotus 1,2,3. The first computer on which I programmed was called a Laser 128. It was an Apple II clone. My first experiences with the Internet were through telnet on a 2400-baud modem.

Work History

Between 1999 and 2003 I worked for an highly lauded website, McMaster.com. There I had been responsible for leading technical design, requirements gathering, documentation, and aspects of software architecture, design and implementation for specific web projects. The company has always maintained a strong focus on usability, and my web skills have maintained the same focus.

When I started at McMaster, I managed inventories and piloted special projects as a buyer.

In my first year with McMaster, I created Mindtoggle.com. Mindtoggle reviewed the Chicago area nightclubs, offered VIP guest listing services, sold local DJ music, and provided general bar and club merchandise. The site had more than 300 registered users who averaged a total 400 sessions and over 9000 page hits per week.

Between 1998 and 1999, I worked for Invesco Mutual Funds in Boston. I was the sole person responsible for the data integrity of the office’s Online Analytic Processing (OLAP) database. I most enjoyed writing small applications to automate the data integrity process.

Before 1998, I worked in technical support for Northwestern University. I also accrued some experience in human resources and financial analysis at FleetBoston (now Bank of America)
